I am hunting both days. Also putting up a pallet blind on a pond. Brother just got permission on another pond as well. Then got a bunch of public hunting marshes within 5 minutes of the house.
I'm going to hit some beaver ponds... Plenty of woodducks working them pretty hard. Tomm is opener of the second split here in Va I'm stoked, went speckled trout and striper fishing last night between the two of us we probably caught 26-28 stripers on gulp and saltwater assassins, only problem was all but two were 17-17.5" and 18 is the min. For keepers in va. My friend caught a nice trout, only one for the night. Was citation size, here is a pic the two stripers were 19 & 20" the trout was definitely a nice specimen.
The ones I hunt the most are a 2 mile drive from the house. Taking my 3 yr old daughter out tonight. Hoping to get a shot at a few.
Did anyone go hunting yesterday? I'm counting down the days....
Saturday took my 3 yr old out. I knew we wouldn't be able to work birds that came in from up high. Wind was 30 out of the south. Walked in quite a distance. Ended with 2 redheads, 1 drake bluebill (a first in nearly 20 years), 2 drake ringnecks, and a gwt. One of the ringers dove and never resurfaced.

Sunday was with my brother and a West wind gusting to 45 mph. Birds were spooky and we each shot a drake mallard.
I like your style..walk in hunt, with your 3y/o daughter, and put birds in your hand.
This coming Saturday (November 23) will be opening day here in Arkansas. I see we are in for rain and wind for Saturday, not usually a good combination for a hunt in timber, but with the ducks not being harassed, we might make something happen. Sunday is to be sunny with a stout north wind which usually means good things for us. We will see.
I will post pics of the opening weekend.
3 mallards and a beautiful drake wood duck this morning. Didn't have hardly any ducks look at me, but it was as close to green timber as you can get round here. Watching them drop down among the cottonwoods was nice.
I agree, but they won't be far off. We will be on the back side of a cold front for sure with the temps dropping through the day. I'm sure we will have cloudy conditions and strong NW winds which again is not ideal conditions for timber. I'm still looking for Sunday morning to be a jam up day. Looks like 25ish for the low Saturday night.
I will be on call, but will try to go if at all possible. Everything is in place and we are sitting on ready.

RCC, you should be dipping a crappie jig in front of that blind!
So far, GrnTmbrHntr and RCC are hunting this weekend. I have 2 long weeks to wait. Anyone else hunting this weekend?
Going to Buggs (Kerr lake) for a Crappie.com Bash. Hoping the weather holds, might go duckin' Monday and thanksgiving morning I'm gonna try to coax a turkey into scattergun range.
Good luck to all who is hunting this weekend.
Hunted today. Shot 8 ducks and 3 geese between my brother and myself. Should've limited on ducks and had several more geese. 3"3s aren't ideal for large canadas even if they are at 10 yards. I'll see if he'll email me the pics.

Cooking some lunch. Brother tripled on a flock of gadwall while I had a skillet and spatula in my hand.

3" shells #3 shot size.... That is my favorite duck shotshell. They pattern well in my gun. I usually use blackcloud but yesterday I picked up a box of blindside..
Field hunting ducks in the morning.
Great field hunt this morning. 5 mallards before 8 am. Could've been done a lot earlier but it was too dark to tell drakes from hens early on. Last group was 400 strong decoying right in. Thought I had it on video, but forgot to press record.
