I've only got 2 both off of drake mallards. The last one was December 4th 2010. Just after I shot it I saw the medical helicopter that was based locally fly over. Then my phone started blowing up. 3 of my friends had taken out to go duck hunting in 40 mph NW winds. At some point the boat capsized. The chopper was going to aid in the search. All 3 perished.

Other one was November 8th (I believe) 2009. Hunting by myself mid day. Only saw 10 ducks total but all decoyed and when I saw the jewelry I was stoked. I've killed a lot of ducks over the years, and been on a couple hunts other folks took bands, but those are the only 2 for me.

I've been fortunate enough to hunt in some fine places here in Arkansas and there have been a lot of bands collected from our group over the years. I can't tell you exactly how many I have, but I have quite a few. The 2 that stand out the most were taken from public land. I'd have to go back and look to see what year it was, but in the mid 90's, I killed a hen mallard on a day in late November (say November 28). That duck was banded up in central Ontario near a lake I'd never heard of by a man from Louisianna that worked for the USFWS. One year and one day later, I killed a greenhead that was banded at the same place as that hen was, by the same man from Louisianna and he banded that greenhead one year and one day later than the hen.

Just one for me in over 35 years of waterfowl hunting. Here is the story.

It's not the kill that makes the hunt
It's the hunt that makes the kill
