    First time duck hunting

So I finally was able to go duck hunting last December. Had been going clay shooting plenty in the last couple of years, many times with Slab. Always tons fun. A year before, couldn't take Slab up on an offer to go due to scheduling issue, but made it a point to plan it ahead and protected the date on the calendar. We left after work and got barely 2 hours of sleep before we were up with Crappie Predator down in Southern Illinois to go hunting. We went to the lottery for hunting spots and got second or third pull. So far so good. Had a good breakfast and killed some time before it was time to throw on the camo and launch the boat. We reached the spot we picked at the lottery and started spreading the decoys. Finally beached the boat and spread some brush on the ends of the boat to complete the blind. Right as the sky was starting to lighted, we already were attracting duck and had our first shots. Crappie Predator's dog was a workhorse. He'd swim way out there to retrieve the ducks, sometimes two or three at a time. It was a great time and to top it off, we packed up and went crappie fishing in the second part of the day. Slab grabbed a few photos, I'll have to see about posting one with this article. I'm going to have to make it a point to take more photos (or at least one...) in the future to share. We got to repeat this again the next day, but sadly, the weather wasn't cooperating and it was slower on both fronts. Still a great time with Slab and Crappie Predator.

Please post about your first (or last, or any...) duck hunt to share.

Drake, that sounds like an epic good time! There is nothing like being out in nature with friends. I feel rejuvenated after those types of experiences, like my brain has been wiped of all the unimportant minutia that clutters our 21st century consciousness. Can you imagine the native Americans, this was their entire existence. Riding horses, hunting, grilling out every night! Sure their lives must have been hard too, they must have worked alot just to feed themselves. It's tough to choose which reality is better sometimes... Live in nature, hunt and farm, sing songs passed down, live tribal, work with nature, not against her - OR - Eat sh*t for breakfast and lunch, get stuck in traffic, stress out about your job and money, live among strangers, get out of shape, pollute the nature around you by all that you consume, take cholesterol and blood pressure drugs from the poor diet and lack of exercise, bla bla bla

If I had to do it again, I think I would ask for a pre-industrial revolution existence....

So you asked for living in this time?

It was a great time, but we crammed it in and when I do this again, I'm going to make sure to plan so I can get more than 2 hours of sleep before starting the day.
